For the second time in as many seasons, the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings will square off in a win-or-go-home scenario.

The Warriors already took the Kings down on the road last season in an epic Game 7, and they’ll look to do the same in the Play-In Tournament.

Nonetheless, as much as he wants to win, Steve Kerr knows beating the Kings means beating his good friend.

When asked about his emotions and what he remembered from last season’s series, Coach Kerr talked about the great atmosphere, but also about how much it hurt him to watch Mike Brown going home empty-handed (Via Warriors on NBC Sports).

“You know your good friend is struggling, and it hurts.”

Brown spent years as an assistant under Kerr before getting another opportunity as a head coach.

He helped the Kings put an end to their postseason drought after almost two decades, but their trip to the playoffs was shortlived and they fell in the first round.

Still, he was the deserving winner of the league’s Coach of the Year award, although he would’ve obviously traded that for a trip to the NBA Finals.

That’s just the way it goes; it’s the nature of competition and professional sports.

There are no friends when the teams take the court, and Kerr must have no mercy when he comes across Brown and the Kings.

The battle will have another edition in this newly-found rivalry, and this will be one of the most exciting games of the season.
