The Golden State Warriors couldn’t live up to their status as reigning NBA champions last season.

Despite rallying to beat the Sacramento Kings, they couldn’t do the same vs. the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the playoffs.

When asked about how often he thinks and looks back to that series, coach Steve Kerr had a blunt and straight-forward answer (via Warriors on NBC Sports).

“The Lakers exposed us.”

Once again, the renowned coach stated that the Warriors weren’t a well-rounded team last season, adding that the Lakers exposed them and bottled them up defensively because they didn’t have any counters.

He stated that the team needs to make sure to have more counters this time around.

The Warriors added some interesting pieces in the offseason, obviously headlined by Chris Paul’s arrival.

They seem deeper and more dynamic on both ends of the floor this season, although losing a 20+ points-per-game scorer like Jordan Poole is obviously a big blow.

Even so, it’ll be interesting to see how all these new pieces mesh on the court, and whether they’ll let them play out and figure things out or if they’ll have a bigger sense of urgency to make moves if the early returns aren’t positive.

The Warriors have complete confidence in their ability to win another NBA championship with Stephen Curry at the center of their project.

That means they may not be very patient if they don’t like what they see early in the year, and they could be a team to watch as we approach the trade deadline.
