There are levels to everything in the NBA, so it makes sense that the biggest names get most of the attention.

Everybody was talking about Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James, and rightly so, as they were the undisputed leaders and best players on the team.

Nonetheless, Team USA had plenty of help from other contributors who didn’t necessarily get as much praise as they deserved.

Notably, one of those — and perhaps the most notorious one — was Devin Booker, who wasn’t even considered for MVP.

That’s why coach Steve Kerr wanted to make sure to give the Phoenix Suns star his flowers, going as far as to call him the team’s ‘unsung MVP.’

Per Ben Golliver, the Golden State Warriors coach called Booker ‘an incredible basketball player’ and claimed that he just wanted to give him some recognition.

USA’s Steve Kerr at the end of his press conference: “Devin Booker is an incredible basketball player. Nobody asked about him. He was our unsung MVP. I just wanted to say that.”

Booker put his head down, embraced his role, and was very efficient for the Americans.

He scored 15 points on 6-of-9 from the floor in the gold medal game, and he even played some solid and uncharacteristic defense and made some big hustle plays throughout the course of the entire tournament.

The Suns star averaged roughly under 12 points to go along with almost three rebounds and just over three assists per game on 22 minutes a night, and he shot 58% from the floor and 59% from three.

He deserves plenty of credit for being mature enough to realize that he needed to play a different role with this team despite being his NBA team’s go-to guy, and it was nice of Coach Kerr to give him his flowers.
