The Phoenix Suns are looking to pick up the pieces and regroup after what they likely see as a hugely disappointing 2023-24 season.

They had traded for future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant midway through the previous season and landed star guard Bradley Beal last summer, leading to pundits picking them to reach the NBA Finals, but they instead got swept in the first round of the 2024 playoffs.

That led to head coach Frank Vogel getting fired after just one season at the helm of the Suns, and he was replaced by Mike Budenholzer.

Budenholzer now has a new member on his staff, as former NBA forward James Posey is joining Phoenix as an assistant coach, per Adrian Wojnarowski.

Posey played 12 seasons in the NBA, and while he played for seven different teams, he may be best remembered for his stint with the Boston Celtics during the 2007-08 season, during which he won a championship.

It was his second ring, as he won it all two years prior as a member of the Miami Heat.

After his playing career ended following the 2020-11 season, Posey became an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he earned a third ring in 2016.

Budenholzer, of course, is a world champion himself, as he coached the Milwaukee Bucks to the Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2021 — ironically, they defeated the Suns in the NBA Finals that year.

Unfortunately, the Suns haven’t made any real improvements to their roster this offseason, and therefore, they could be headed for another disappointing finish this coming season.
