Landing a job as a college coach is one of the best moves that a basketball professional can make.

And Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young just made that very substantial and financially beneficial move.

Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Young is finalizing a “long-term deal” to become the next head coach at Brigham Young University.

Young, who is the highest-paid assistant in the NBA, has reportedly been eyed by BYU for a while now.

Young will replace Mark Pope, who left BYU for a job at Kentucky after bringing the school to the NCAA Tournament.

The Phoenix Suns associate coach will be a good fit with BYU, as he was born in Salta Lake City and will be ready to make his home state proud.

Young has been coaching for years, having spent eight years in the NBA G League including with the Utah Flash, Iowa Energy, and Delaware 87ers.

Over the last few years, he has been in contention for coaching gigs with NBA teams like the Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Suns.

He was recently interviewed for the head coaching roles with the Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Nets but now he will be entering the world of college basketball.

As for the Suns, they will now push forward without Young, who has grown close with the roster and the coaching staff.

They are officially the sixth seed in the Western Conference and will have the tough task of taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening round of the playoffs.

Young is hoping that his last few weeks with the Suns will be very productive and successful ones.
