The Phoenix Suns and Atlanta Hawks may be in very different positions, but they’re both teams that seem to be stuck in their current position.

While the Hawks are mired in mediocrity, the Suns are trying to figure out how to convert their star power into a legitimate run at an NBA championship.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski, the two teams have agreed to a trade, with forward David Roddy going to Atlanta and forward E.J. Liddell heading to the Valley of the Sun.

While Roddy stands just 6-foot-4, he weighs 255 pounds, allowing him to hold up playing both small forward and power forward.

He was traded to the Suns in February, and he finished the 2023-24 season averaging 8.4 points and 4.2 rebounds a game.

He was the No. 23 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers before getting promptly traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, and while at Colorado State University, he was named the Mountain West Player of the Year for the 2021-22 campaign.

Liddell, a second-round choice in the 2022 draft, missed all of his rookie year because of a torn ACL, and this past season, he only got spot duty in eight games.

In his third and final year at Ohio State University, the 6-foot-7, 240-pound man put up 19.4 points and 7.9 rebounds a game.

The Hawks recently traded one-time All-Star guard Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans, and there have been persistent rumors they could trade three-time All-Star guard Trae Young next.

Meanwhile, Phoenix still has Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, but they got swept in the first round of the 2024 playoffs, and new head coach Mike Budenholzer will try to make the team into a bona fide threat in the Western Conference.
