The Phoenix Suns have been transforming rapidly before our eyes for the last few months.
First, it was the addition of Kevin Durant, then it was the loss of head coach Monty Williams and Chris Paul, as well as the acquisition of Bradley Beal and others.
The Suns have had a very busy season when it comes to major changes.
But are they done?
Many people are still wondering what’s next for big man Deandre Ayton, who seemingly hasn’t been too happy with his role on the team.
Analyst Ric Bucher believes that Ayton will begin the season as a Suns player still, but could be traded away if things don’t get off to a strong star.
“I think they go into the season with him and see how things happen but I would not be surprised if he’s with another team by Christmas,” Bucher said.
The biggest reason for possibly losing Ayton is that, according to Bucher, he doesn’t want to play the role that the team requires.
That has been clear for a few seasons now and yet the demands of Phoenix haven’t changed.
If the Suns hope to win a championship, they will need Ayton to conform and he might not be willing to do that.
Additionally, the road ahead could be rougher for him due to the absence of Paul.
Bucher noted that Paul got Ayton a lot of “good looks” during their time together and that helped him perform well.
How will things work with Durant, Beal, and Devin Booker leading the team?
There is no doubt that the Suns have one of the most exciting backcourts in the entire league.
Meanwhile, Ayton’s position within the frontcourt has a bunch of question marks surrounding it.
