The Phoenix Suns didn’t need a lot of time to realize that Frank Vogel may not have been the right guy for the job.
At least, that’s how they felt after just a season in charge of the team.
Now, they’ve brought another experienced, defensive-minded, NBA championship-winning coach to try and get over the hump.
With that in mind, Suns veteran Josh Okogie shared his first impressions of coach Mike Budenholzer.
Addressing the media, Okogie praised Budenholzer’s communication skills, stating that he makes it easy and is a very approachable man (Via PHNX Suns).
Josh Okogie on getting to know new Suns coach Mike Budenholzer: “He makes it easy man. He’s very warm, welcoming, easy to talk to, personable, and he wants to get to know everybody.”

Per Okogie, Budenholzer has actively tried to reach out and get to know all of his new players.
The Suns lacked a physical big man and a playmaking point guard, and there was only so much any coach could’ve done with that kind of roster.
Frank Vogel still had them in the top 10 in terms of defense, and that’s despite not having that many great defenders on the floor.
Budenholzer might bring in some new concepts or help them build off that momentum on the defensive end of the court, but they didn’t make any big transactions in the offseason.
You can’t win without a point guard; not at this level or any other level, and this team might be stuck and unable to get over the hump for as long as they fail to realize that and solve that issue.
