In the grand scheme of things, baseball, and MLB specifically, is probably less glamorous than some think it to be.

Yes, there are plenty of exciting young stars and steady veteran contributors.

Yes, pitchers are touching 100 mph these days, with knee-buckling curveballs and changeups that freeze hitters.

However, it’s also populated with scrappy utility-type players who offer defensive versatility, speed, some athleticism, and a good clubhouse presence.

Those words can be used to describe 34-year-old veteran Ehire Adrianza, who just reached an important milestone.

“Venezuela native Ehire Adrianza began his professional career in 2006 and has played 12 seasons for five different teams. The utility man has logged innings at every position besides catcher. Now, he’s reached 10 Years of Major League Service Time! Congratulations, Ehire!,” the MLB Players Association (MLBPA) tweeted.

Adrianza has experienced every feeling a player can experience.

He was in the San Francisco Giants organization when they won the World Series in 2014, but had more of a role with the 2021 Atlanta Braves.

He is a career .237/.307/.352 hitter, currently with the Los Angeles Angels.

After making his debut in 2013, he has finally reached the 10-year service time threshold, which unlocks a nice pension for him when his playing days are over.

According to JustBallGloves.com, “everyone (who has completed 10 years of service) is allowed to start withdrawing $68,000 annually by the age of 45. However, if you wait until you turn 62, the annual payout bumps up to $220,000.”

It’s not a bad pension for former players, and the Adrianza family should be celebrating as we speak.

And deservedly so.
