In Team USA’s second game of the 2024 Paris Olympics, head coach Steve Kerr and his coaching staff decided it was time to put Anthony Davis in the starting lineup and bench center Joel Embiid.

It was a move many had been calling for, as it seemed as though Davis was thriving whenever he was on the floor while Embiid was struggling and appeared to be out of shape.

Ultimately, the move paid off as Davis had another solid performance, being the anchor of the defense and helping lead the charge offensively against South Sudan while playing alongside Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James.

Even though Davis finally got the start for Team USA, he went down with an apparent ankle injury, which was obviously a major cause for concern as he’s arguably been its best two-way player thus far.

However, according to Ben Golliver of The Washington Post, Davis’ injury isn’t serious and he should be ready to play in the next game against Puerto Rico.

USA’s Anthony Davis said he was “100 percent” after appearing to tweak his ankle getting tangled up with former Lakers teammate Wenyen Gabriel.
Davis joked: “Wenyen being Wenyen. He’s my guy. I was falling and he came down too and just kind of stepped on my foot.”

Although Team USA has been dominant thus far and is stacked with talent from top to bottom, Davis not being available would be a costly blow.

Davis has a skill set that no other player on the team can bring to this tournament, which is being equally dominant on both ends of the floor, and losing him to an injury would make the squad a weaker all-around team.
