The Houston Texans have been bottom-feeders for quite a while now.
Even with Deshaun Watson leading the way, the team struggled to be at their best, either because of questionable decisions from the front office or poor coaching.
Now, the team is looking forward to the dawn of a new era; the DeMeco Ryans era.
They got off to a solid start with a nice free agency period in the offseason, but they can now add the cherry on top of the sundae in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Texans hold the second-overall pick in the upcoming draft, which they’re expected to use in either C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young, depending on who’s available.
Needless to say, having a potential building block at the most crucial position in the game will put plenty of expectations on whoever they choose:
“It’s exciting for us to have the No. 2 pick,” Ryans said, per NBC. “But it’s also, at the same time, there’s no pressure where the young man is picked. I think it’s unfair to ask a guy, just because you’re pick No. 2 overall, you have to come in and you’re the face of our franchise and you’re the leader. That’s unfair to the guy and I’m not going to put that type of weight on the shoulders of whoever it is that we pick. That’s not what we’re anticipating. That’s not what we’re expecting him to do.

Nonetheless, coach Ryans doesn’t want whoever they draft to feel like it’s up to him to single-handedly be the franchise’s savior.
Instead, all Ryans wants from his new player is for him to be a hard worker with determination.
The Texans don’t want to rebuild for long; they want to compete right away.
And improving at the QB position would most definitely be the first step in that direction.
Fortunately for them, both Stroud and Young have been dealing with high expectations throughout their entire amateur careers, and they have never crumbled under pressure.
