Quarterback C.J. Stroud was one of the biggest phenomenons in the NFL last season, and the then-rookie made the Houston Texans into winners a lot sooner than virtually anyone expected.

He finished eighth in passing yards with 4,108 and led the Texans to a 10-7 record and an AFC South title, and he then guided them to a blowout win over the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Coming off winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, Stroud is just getting started with what should be an outstanding career.

Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik said on “Green Light with Chris Long” that Stroud has one quality that sets him apart from many young players and should take him far in the years to come.

“He’ll be up watching film, and this isn’t even game plan time,” said Slowik. “We’re talking right now in training camp, he’s sending texts to receivers, to coaches, to everybody from film of clips of how he wants to make some adjustments, things he’s thinking through the course of plays, and it’s like, 11:30 p.m. man — go to sleep.”

Stroud was the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s NFL draft, and while most felt he was an excellent prospect, Bryce Young, the skilled QB out of the University of Alabama who was the No. 1 pick, was considered the best overall prospect.

But Young struggled mightily in his rookie year, while Stroud soared high and displayed some clutch heroics in multiple games.

Houston will have a new weapon this year in four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs, and another four-time Pro Bowler by the name of Danielle Hunter has also arrived to help bolster their pass rush.

They may not be ready for a serious push at a Super Bowl appearance, but given how poised and productive Stroud was last year, perhaps a trip to the AFC Championship Game this winter isn’t totally out of the question.
