After three very poor seasons, the Houston Texans are starting to feel some tangible hope for the future.
They hired DeMeco Ryans, who had spent two years as the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, as their new head coach, and they have brought in veteran wide receiver Robert Woods and former Dallas Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz.
Houston also has the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, which will give them the opportunity to select a man who could be the franchise quarterback for the next 10 years or more.
Depending on what the Carolina Panthers, who have the top pick, do, Bryce Young, the excellent quarterback from the University of Alabama, could be available for the Texans.
The one concern about Young is his modest stature, but according to NFL Network’s James Palmer, Ryans doesn’t seem concerned about that and is looking past it.
A few things appear clear. The #texans feel their offense can work with different skill sets at QB. Also, the size of Bryce Young is not a concern for them at all. Especially in the of DeMeco Ryans. My report on NFL NOW on @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/fKKRn1ROJy

Young is listed at a maximum of six-feet tall (some sources have him at 5-foot-10) and 194 pounds, and there simply have been very few QBs in the modern era who have succeeded despite being at or under six-feet tall.
Even some 40 years ago, a man such as Joe Montana, who was 6-foot-2, was initially thought to be too small to excel in the pros, but that concern obviously didn’t pan out.
However, Young is an excellent passer, and Palmer mentioned how Ryans loves the poise and calmness under pressure he possesses, and it’s a quality that all the all-time greats seem to have.
