The Angels’ Slump Continues To Get Worse

The Los Angeles Angels were one of the most aggressive teams at the trade deadline.

They traded for Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, C.J. Cron, and Randal Grichuk, bolstering their roster in order to give Shohei Ohtani a chance to compete in October.

However, things have only gone south since the Angels made these key trades.

On Sunday, they lost another tough game against the Seattle Mariners, falling 3-2 in extra innings.

It was their sixth straight loss and it knocked them below the .500 mark, as well as seven games back of the Toronto Blue Jays for the final Wild Card spot.

On Twitter, Jeff Passan took note of just how bad things have gotten for the Halos.

The Los Angeles Angels have now lost six consecutive games after falling 3-2 to Seattle in extra innings. They are 56-57 on the season, seven games back of Toronto for the final American League wild card spot and still have to leapfrog Boston, New York and Seattle, too.

Yikes.

While the Angels are in an enviable position compared to teams such as the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals, things have begun to fall apart in Anaheim.

The team has yet to win a game since the trade deadline and they are slowly slipping in the standings.

To make matters worse, they are now in fourth place in the American League West, 10.5 games back of the first-place Texas Rangers.

Passan also noted the list of teams that the Halos have to climb over to regain traction in the Wild Card race.

The Mariners, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox are all standing in the way with less than two months to go in the regular season.

And as the Angels continue to slide, the less likely it becomes that Ohtani remains in a Halos uniform next season.
