What the Houston Astros offense did to the Texas Rangers pitching staff from Monday to Wednesday can’t be described with words.
On Monday, they won by a final of 13-6 in the series opener.
Then on Tuesday, they battered the Rangers, 14-1, on the day Jose Altuve hit three home runs in the first three innings.
They closed out an impressive sweep against a direct foe in the playoff race with a 12-3 win on Wednesday.
That’s right: if we add up all three games, the Astros outscored the Rangers 39-10.
They completely obliterated them and made an important statement: they are the reigning World Series champs and are eager to defend their title.
They are healthy and trending up, with some impressive sluggers and an improving staff.
The offense carried the Astros to start the week and established a record in the process.
“The @astros are the first team in MLB history to score 12+ runs and hit 5+ homers in 3 straight games,” OptaSTATS tweeted.

Five homers in three consecutive games is really impressive.
It’s not just Altuve, who now has 15 homers in an abbreviated season.
It’s Kyle Tucker (26 homers), Yordan Alvarez (25), Alex Bregman (22), Yainer Diaz (21), Chas McCormick (20), Jose Abreu (14), and others.
They even got star contact hitter Michael Brantley back recently to make an already impressive and deep lineup even stronger.
If the pitching staff can show some consistency, the Astros are in a good position to compete in October.
They got Justin Verlander back and Framber Valdez is a true ace, too.
After that, it gets a but murky.
Cristian Javier and Hunter Brown have been a bit worse than expected but remain supremely talented, and J.P. France is a nice depth arm, too.
The Astros are really, really dangerous.
