In the midst of their poor stretch during the month of April, the St. Louis Cardinals have dealt with more than their fair share of pitching struggles.
Much of it has to do with the fact that the team has been without Adam Wainwright since late March.
The two-time World Series champion was originally scheduled to start Opening Day before suffering a groin injury during the World Baseball Classic.
However, Cardinals fans will not have to wait much longer for the veteran right-hander’s return.
According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, the Cardinals have a plan for Wainwright.
The 41-year-old will come off the injured list on Saturday and will make his first start of the season with the Detroit Tigers in town.

The Cardinals pitching staff has not performed well to start the season.
Their rotation has only turned in six quality starts, four of which belong to Jordan Montgomery.
Last season, Wainwright won 11 games and posted a 3.71 ERA, but lost his rotation spot after a bad September and did not pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies in the postseason.
St. Louis brought back the three-time All-Star on a one-year deal.
2023 will be Wainwright’s final season in Major League Baseball.
But on Saturday, he’ll finally get a chance to pitch in front of the home crowd after missing over a month with his groin issue.
The Cardinals currently find themselves tied with the Colorado Rockies for the worst record in the National League.
Wainwright’s return should help the Cardinals as they look to get back on track.
