As many St. Louis Cardinals fans feared, the starting rotation has become an issue.
Through the first six games of the season, St. Louis is 2-4.
To make matters worse, no Cardinals starter has had a quality start.
Their best pitching performances were those of Jack Flaherty and Jordan Montgomery.
Flaherty lasted five innings against the Toronto Blue Jays and didn’t allow a run, but walked seven, while Montgomery allowed three runs over five innings of work.
On Wednesday, staff ace Miles Mikolas had another rough outing, allowing five runs for the second time this season.
All of that has added up to an unfortunate mark, as the Cardinals rotation ranks dead last in the National League with a 7.14 ERA.
#STLCards say they are confident team’s biggest obvious question mark — starting pitching — will improve after bad start. Better hope so. Cardinals rotation through 6 games ranks dead last in National League in ERA (7.14), opponent average (.341) and hits allowed (42). #gulp

Not having Adam Wainwright, who began the season on the injured list due to a groin issue, certainly doesn’t help matters.
While the Cardinals have only made one full turn through the rotation, this start to the season is less than ideal.
For much of the offseason, Cardinals fans were hoping that the team would add a starting pitcher to bolster their rotation.
After Jose Quintana departed for the New York Mets, there were still several solid options available such as Nathan Eovaldi, Andrew Heaney, and former Cardinal Michael Wacha.
Much to the dismay of fans, no pitching was added.
The top free agent starters all signed with different teams, and now the Cardinals are stuck trying to piece together a rotation just six games into the season.
They’ll begin a road trip on Friday and face off against the Milwaukee Brewers.
