The Cavs Are Reportedly Showing Interest In 3 NBA Veterans

The Cleveland Cavaliers have updated their roster a bit this summer after having an excellent 2022-23 season that saw them get closer to returning to the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference.

They have added Max Strus, who was a key factor in the Miami Heat’s Cinderella run to the NBA Finals this past season, as well as forward Georges Niang so far this offseason.

But Cleveland still wants to do more in order to improve for this coming season, and according to Chris Fedor via NBACentral, they’re interested in big men Christan Wood and P.J. Washington, as well as wing Kelly Oubre Jr.

The Cavs need some beef on their frontline, and it was a deficiency that was exposed in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs when they were waxed in five games by the rough-and-tumble New York Knicks.

Washington is only 6-foot-7, but he weighs 230 pounds, giving him some girth, and he is a decent scoring option who can also block shots and hit some 3-pointers.

Wood is a different type of big man — he is 6-foot-9 and lean, but he can score, and he is a very good sniper from 3-point range.

Oubre is known as a good defender, although his outside shooting is poor.

Cleveland had issues this past season finding a consistent contributor at the small forward position, and head coach J.B. Bickerstaff tried Caris LeVert, Isaac Okoro, and Lamar Stevens in the starting lineup at different times.

By playoff time, the team had settled on Okoro at the starting small forward spot, but he struggled with his outside shooting versus New York.

It is hoped that Strus will solve that positional issue this fall.
