The Minnesota Vikings continue to explore their options with Dalvin Cook.
The star running back isn’t likely to be a part of the team next season, and they were even quite close to moving on from him already.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, via Ari Meirov, the Miami Dolphins almost traded for him in March, but the deal eventually fell off.
The #Vikings and #Dolphins nearly completed a trade in March that would’ve sent RB Dalvin Cook to Miami, per @AlbertBreer. Miami added to their backfield a month later, using a 3rd-round pick on Texas A&M’s Devon Achane.

The Dolphins then used a third-round pick to land Devon Achane out of Texas A&M, revamping their subpar running back corps.
The fact that the Vikings were willing to give up on Cook already speaks volumes of their plans for the future.
They’ve talked about a “competitive rebuild” but have parted ways with multiple prominent players, such as Adam Thielen and Za’Darius Smith.
The team will rely heavily upon Justin Jefferson again next season, but there’s only so much a superstar wideout can do, especially with Kirk Cousins at quarterback.
All things considered, it now seems like the division is the Detroit Lions’ to lose, as the Chicago Bears are still a couple of years away from contention, and the Green Bay Packers shouldn’t fare all that well now that Aaron Rodgers has left town.
As for the Dolphins, it’s not a secret that they remained interested in improving their running back game.
So, maybe they’ll pick up the talks to try and get Cook to work under Mike McDaniel’s tutelage, and that’s a mouth-watering prospect for Dolphins fans, considering his offensive expertise and how much the offense improved in just one year with him calling the shots.
