The Atlanta Falcons have been relatively quiet during the NFL offseason thus far.

They have added just a few players, including Taylor Heinicke, Jessie Bates, and Kaden Elliss.

Recently, the Falcons have added another player to their roster, this time, a longtime NFL veteran.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Calais Campbell has signed a one-year deal with the Falcons.

While Calais Campbell had several options, he bought in to the vision of Atlanta coach Arthur Smith and GM Terry Fontenot. He’s been to a conference title game with a young team and young QB before (the #Jaguars), and perhaps there are some similarities. https://t.co/z5tHAF5vdy

Campbell is a 15-year NFL veteran and is widely seen as one of the league’s premier defensive ends.

He will be joining a Falcons roster that has many young players on it.

Campbell’s veteran presence should not only help the Falcons on the field but in the locker room as well.

The Falcons haven’t had a winning record since 2017 and will look to right their organizational ship in 2023.

Although Campbell will add a much-needed force to their defense, there is still an elephant in the room.

The quarterback position is something that the Falcons have struggled with, especially in the absence of Matt Ryan.

Last season, Marcus Mariota started the first 13 games of the season, and the team had a 5-8 record.

After the Falcons’ bye week, rookie Desmond Ridder started the final four games of the season, winning two of them.

The organization has shown trust in Ridder, publically saying that he is their starter moving forward.

However, many have believed that the team is still in pursuit of Lamar Jackson, becoming their starter for the foreseeable future.

Will the Falcons’ young potential be enough to vault them into a contender in 2023?
