The Seattle Mariners were among the most active teams prior to the trade deadline.
Oddly enough, they weren’t really buyers.
They traded a couple of players, and after that, they started to soar in the standings.
One of the hitters they flipped was veteran lefty-masher AJ Pollock.
Pollock, however, was on the injured list with a left oblique strain.
The San Francisco Giants, which was the acquiring team, traded for him while he was on the injured list with a hamstring ailment.
After a few weeks of rehabbing and playing minor league games, the Giants decided to release Pollock.

Pollock is 35, has been injury-prone throughout his entire career (particularly prone to muscle injuries) and was having a mediocre season, so it was definitely a risky move for San Francisco.
In just 138 plate appearances on the year, he was slashing .173/.225/.323 with five homers and 15 RBI when San Francisco traded for him.
He was activated from the injured list on August 1 and, after a handful of games, returned to the shelf on August 9, this time with a left oblique strain.
Pollock is believed to be healthy or close to full health, as he was wrapping up his rehab assignment, but the Giants didn’t want to open up a roster spot for him.
He could potentially wind up with another team before the season expires, even if it is on a minor league deal.
