The Miami Heat had a really special and impressive postseason, making it all the way to the NBA Finals, despite many people counting them out and expecting little from them.

But just because they over-performed and impressed doesn’t mean they aren’t going to make some alterations in the summer.

These alterations might include saying goodbye to a fan-favorite player.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, via NBACentral, the Heat have considered waiving Kyle Lowry if they’re unable to find a trade partner for him.

The idea of the Heat parting ways with Lowry isn’t too surprising.

Lowry produced 11.2 points and 5.1 assists a game during the 2022-23 season.

Those numbers are a far cry from what he was doing during his best days with the Toronto Raptors years ago.

But that’s understandable considering he is now 37 years old.

Lowry holds a fairly substantial contract with the Heat.

He signed a three-year, $85 million deal with the team in 2021 and is owed $29.7 million next season in the final year of his contract.

The Heat would love to take that number off their books and are hoping that another team in the league is willing to take it on.

But if they can’t, they will likely waive Lowry and stretch what they owe him over the next few years, giving them more financial freedom to sign another star.

The Heat have reportedly had their eyes on Damian Lillard for months now.

Would they be able to convince the Portland Trail Blazers to pick up the tab on Lowry as part of a multi-player and multi-asset trade?
