The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a season in which the team far exceeded expectations after starting the 2022-23 campaign 2-10.
With the Lakers fresh off an appearance in the Western Conference Finals, the storied franchise got a taste of success and wants a bit more heading into the offseason, with some moves potentially on the horizon for Los Angeles.
Before the Lakers can dive into NBA free agency next month, the team must first decide what they want to do with the No. 17 and No. 47 overall picks in the 2023 NBA Draft, with Gonzaga’s Drew Timme possibly being an option for the franchise.
According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, the Lakers worked out the former Gonzaga star and talked about what Nikola Jokic’s recent success has done for how he’s now being perceived in the NBA.
Gonzaga’s Drew Timme worked out for the Lakers today and is grateful he’s becoming a pro at the same time Nikola Jokic is showing what he can do in the NBA.
“I owe him a lot,” Timme said. “I think he’s making me a little more appealing than I was probably perceived before.”

At this point, it is uncertain where Timme might end up in this week’s draft, which is set to take place on June 22, as he could very well go undrafted and become a gem for the Lakers like Austin Reaves did two years ago.
If Timme does get drafted, it will likely be late in the second round, which puts the Lakers in a good place to draft him if they decide to go that route.
However, it he goes undrafted, the Lakers may still give him a call to give him a shot, and his skills could be put on display during the NBA summer league in Las Vegas next month.
The Lakers front office has been very good when it comes to drafting players over the last decade or so and could have some more magic up their sleeve this time around.
