The Miami Heat made it to the NBA Finals despite not having that much elite talent in their ranks.

They had multiple undrafted players and unsung heroes, and those guys most definitely made a name for themselves and got some league-wide consideration.

That became evident with Eric Pincus’ report (via NBACentral) of the Orlando Magic reportedly being interested in signing Max Strus.

Strus had some big moments throughout the playoffs, especially in the Eastern Conference Finals vs. the Boston Celtics.

He showcased an impressive shooting ability, although he was quite streaky and went ice-cold as quickly as he went red-hot.

While not an All-Star-caliber player right now — and likely never — Strus has proven that he can be a solid contributor both starting or coming off the bench.

He can play at the two or the three, and even though he’s not exactly a lockdown defender, he’s more than capable of holding his own on that end of the floor; otherwise, he wouldn’t have even smelled the court on Erik Spoelstra’s watch.

The Magic have put together a plethora of young talent, headlined by Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

Strus might not fit their timeline or their jumbo lineups of position-less basketball, but he fits their need for a long-term solution at the SG spot, as Markelle Fultz and Gary Harris are prime trade candidates as they enter the final year of their contracts.

Then again, it’s hard to envision the Heat letting him walk unless they land a big fish in free agency.
