The Seattle Mariners have quickly become one of the more exciting teams to watch in Major League Baseball as of late.

Over the weekend, they swept their AL West rivals in the defending World Series champion Houston Astros.

The Texas Rangers, who lead the AL West, were also swept this weekend.

Both the Astros and Rangers were swept at home, with the Rangers dropping three straight to the Milwaukee Brewers.

All of a sudden, the Mariners have fought their way back into the mix for an AL West title.

On Twitter, Bob Nightengale pointed out just how hot the Mariners are and how things are getting interesting in the AL West.

The Texas #Rangers and Houston #Astros each are swept at home over the weekend, and just like that, the Seattle #Mariners are back in the AL West race, just 3 games out.

The Mariners have now come to within three games of first place in the AL West.

Last season, they won 90 games and secured the second Wild Card spot in the American League.

They recently have overtaken the Toronto Blue Jays for the third spot.

Meanwhile, they have won six consecutive games and are slowly but surely creeping up on both the Astros and Rangers.

Houston holds the second Wild Card spot at the moment, and Seattle is just a half-game back of the defending champions.

Things are certainly getting interesting in the AL West.

A division that seemed to be a two-team race between the Astros and Rangers has now become a three-team race, and all three teams currently are in playoff position as the month of August begins to wind down.

We’ll see how things shake out the rest of the way.
