The Mets Are Stuck In A Shocking Rut

The New York Mets are not having the season many of their fans hoped for.

After winning 101 games last season the Mets were expected to be competitive again.

Many thought at worst they would be a Wild Card team in the NL with the addition of Justin Verlander to their starting rotation.

But that has been anything but the case.

The Mets are playing like one of the worst teams in baseball in June.

As noted by Codify, they have a 5-15 record over the past 20 games.

National League East teams, last 20 games:
Atlanta Braves ————> 17-3
Philadelphia Phillies ——> 15-5
Miami Marlins ————> 14-6
New York Mets ———–> 5-15
Washington Nationals —-> 5-15

The Mets are winning at the same rate as the dreadful Washington Nationals during June.

It is hard not to look at that team and see they need to make some changes.

Whether to their roster or coaching staff but something needs to happen.

They are not getting the pitching they have hoped for this season.

One of the craziest stats of the season for the Mets is their record when they score 6+ runs.

According to PointsBet, the Mets are 13-12 this season in games where they score 6+ runs.

Last season the Mets were 55-4 when scoring that much.

The Mets have 12 losses when scoring 6+ runs this year.

Their bullpen has struggled to hold leads as the loss of closer Edwin Diaz continues to loom large.

The Mets have a bullpen ERA of 4.22 on the year which is ninth-worst in baseball.

Other than making a trade there seems to be no clear way to improve their bullpen.

It will be interesting to see what the Mets choose to do at the trade deadline.
