The New York Mets have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this season.
They have not received the production they hoped for from their lineup or starting pitching.
It seems to be a failure as a team rather than just blaming one position group.
But the Mets have gotten back to winning games of late.
They have won five in a row and are trying to claw back into the Wild Card standings.
According to Bob Nightengale, the Mets have found a clear formula to win games.
That is by having their starting pitcher go at least six innings.

Winning 26 of 30 games that a starter has gone six innings is astonishing.
But, it shows that the Mets are led by their starters.
The Mets have a pitching staff with a few future Hall-of-Famers in Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.
Yet, both have not pitched their best this year.
The most successful Mets starter is rookie Kodai Senga.
He came over from Japan and has dominated MLB hitters all year long.
On the season, Senga has a 7-5 record with a 3.31 ERA.
Also, in 89.2 innings, he has struck out 113 batters.
The only time Senga has gotten into trouble is when he walks too many hitters.
He has 47 walks on the season which ties him for third in baseball.
Even though the NL East is out of reach for the Mets they can still make a push for a Wild Card berth.
If they are clicking on all cylinders in the second half this could be a dangerous team.
