The Orioles Have Made Elite MLB History

The 2023 Baltimore Orioles are something special.

Not only have they continued the progress they made last season, when they finished 83-79 in the standings, but they are now the best team in the American League with an 87-51 record.

The O’s might lose a game or two, but they have made it a priority to get up quickly and avoid losing streaks.

In fact, they just made history for it.

“The brooms are doomed. With their win against the Angels in last night’s game, the @Orioles now have the longest streak of consecutive series of 2+/multiple games without being swept in American League history,” the official Twitter account of the organization wrote.

The last time the Orioles were swept was in May 13-15, 2022, when the Tigers won all three of their series at Comerica Park.

Baltimore has lost games and series since that date, but haven’t been swept, and that’s impressive.

Just four teams in MLB have won 80 games or more as of Wednesday afternoon, and the O’s are one of them.

They are well on their way to make their first postseason since 2016, when they lost in the Wild Card round.

Since that year, the franchise entered a dark period of losing.

However, after touching rock bottom in 2021 (52-110), they started their resurgence last year and are currently the top candidates to represent the American League in the World Series.

There is a lot of work to do, of course, but the Orioles have been able to dramatically improve their scouting and player development departments, paving their way for their 2023 breakout.
