The 65-74 San Diego Padres have well-documented issues winning one-run games and in extra-innings.

However, a big part of their disappointing campaign has been their inability to string together long streaks of wins.

Each time they look on the verge of busting out and building some momentum, they lose and have to start all over.

MLB insider Bob Nightengale revealed a sad fact about the 2023 Padres.

“The San Diego #Padres have had eight 3-game winning streaks this season. They remain the only team in #MLB not to have a 4-game winning streak this season,” he tweeted.

Even the Oakland Athletics had a seven-game winning streak at one point.

The Kansas City Royals could put together a streak of at least four wins.

Yet the Padres have been unable to do that.

The most shocking part of their disappointing 2023 campaign is their positive run differential.

It is, as of Tuesday afternoon, +60.

That’s significantly higher than even some contenders such as the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cincinnati Reds, the San Francisco Giants, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Boston Red Sox, just to name a few.

Unfortunately, the on-field results didn’t match the expectations in San Diego, and Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Ha-Seong Kim, Xander Bogaerts, Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Josh Hader and others will have to head into the postseason with a chip on their shoulders.

The same goes for manager Bob Melvin and main baseball guy A.J. Preller.

The fans expect the Padres to come up with a plan that guarantees contention in 2024, especially with their current core.
