Over the past month or so, the drama surrounding the New Orleans Pelicans has been palpable, with superstar forward Zion Williamson in the news for all the wrong reasons and the team showing a strong interest in trading for Scoot Henderson ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft.

Ultimately, the Pelicans’ efforts to trade up in the draft to select Henderson failed, as he headed to the Portland Trail Blazers with the No. 3 overall pick.

With trade rumors swirling as of late, the Pelicans have been a team to watch in terms of New Orleans potentially trying to shake things up ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

However, the team has remained quiet and recently brought in another piece to the playoff puzzle, with New Orleans picking guard Jordan Hawkins out of the University of Connecticut with the No. 14 pick in the draft.

Pelicans fans got a look at their rookie guard rocking his new jersey, with the team’s Twitter account sharing the following pictures.

Although Hawkins is a solid addition to the squad, it still remains to be seen what the Pelicans intend to do with Williamson and if the Pelicans brass is determined to make a move at some point this summer.

Despite Williamson’s obvious talent, the superstar forward hasn’t been able to stay healthy during his short time in New Orleans and now is at the center of some off-the-court drama, which is a distraction the team doesn’t need.

With Williamson only being 22 years old, it’s a tough decision for the team, as he could get in shape and put his injury woes behind him, but then again he could spiral out of control and become another tragic story of a No. 1 pick not panning out in the NBA.

Only time will tell what the Pelicans decide to do and if Williamson is part of their long-term plans.
