There is only one undefeated team in Major League Baseball: the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays, against all odds, are 9-0 to start the 2023 season.
They are obviously a great team, but few people expected them to be this good.
Anybody doing early season power rankings who doesn’t have them at the top spot at this point is just wrong.
Power rankings are an excellent tool to measure expected performance and current form, all in one place.
It considers where teams stood at before the season, and where they currently are.
The Rays belong at the top of the standings.
Fox Sports analyst Ben Verlander certainly thinks that way.
In his most recent power rankings, he has the Rays first and the San Diego Padres, owners of a 6-4 record and three straight wins, right behind.

The Atlanta Braves are third and the Milwaukee Brewers, who have opened the season 7-2, are fourth.
The solid Minnesota Twins are fifth, and the New York Yankees are sixth.
The Houston Astros, reigning World Series champs, fell all the way down to eight by virtue of their lackluster 4-6 start in the AL West division.
The Rays have three sweeps to being the year and are eager to make the playoffs and embark on a deep run once there.
Wander Franco is healthy and looking better than ever, the rotation has been absolutely masterful, and Isaac Paredes, Brandon Lowe, Josh Lowe, Randy Arozarena and the rest of the lineup are scorching hot.
They are really looking solid, and are currently the best team in the majors.
