With 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in 28 minutes, Houston Rockets rookie Amen Thompson was very impressive in Friday night’s Summer League win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Sadly, this might be the last time he plays until the regular season starts.
According to Kelly Iko and Shams Charania, via Legion Hoops, the Rockets are “very likely” to keep Thompson out for the remainder of Summer League after he suffered a left ankle injury.

Thompson is set to undergo an MRI on Sunday to see the severity of his injury.
As of now, it seems unlikely that this mishap will affect Thompson’s regular season.
That is great news because he was really showing a lot of greatness in Friday’s game against Portland and definitely looked like the first-round pick he was in last month’s draft.
He started things off in a big way, scoring nine points in the first quarter alone.
The Rockets will need him to keep playing like this when 2023-24 starts in a few months.
They are currently in the midst of a fairly major rebuild, with new players and coaches filling the locker room.
Thompson is seen as a very important part of the rebuilding and could become one of the team’s most important players.
Fans were disappointed to see Thompson injured during the game.
But they were relieved to see him walk off the court, albeit gingerly.
That suggests that this is an injury he can bounce back from.
Still, the Rockets are going to err on the side of caution and keep him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.
They don’t want anything to jeopardize their promising rookie.
