The Royals Are Suddenly Showing Life Amid A Nightmare Year

The Kansas City Royals swept the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon, taking the series finale with an impressive 9-2 score.

Starting pitcher Brady Singer (5.10 ERA) keeps improving as the days go on after a nightmarish start of the season, and Bobby Witt Jr. is absolutely on fire: he hit another home run in the game and now has 19 on the year.

Yes, it was against the short-handed Mets, but a sweep is a sweep and six straight wins are very significant for a team like the Royals.

As Talkin’ Baseball notes, they just might be the hottest team in baseball.

The only problem is that they have been one of the worst teams in the league this year, with a 35-75 record.

Of course, that doesn’t make their streak any less impressive, but it’s hard to leave behind such a lousy performance.

Even the Oakland Athletics (the worst squad in MLB with a 30-80 record) won seven games in a row at one point this year.

Streaks happen, but the season has 162 games for a reason: to truly separate the good from the bad and the bad from the worst.

Unfortunately, the Royals are dangerously close to that last category.

They have no impact prospects near the majors, their scouting is bad, and their player development is a weakness, not a strength.

Until they prove they can fix these things, they are probably doomed in a highly competitive American League.

A Witt and a Singer are not enough to turn a perennial loser into a contender.
