After Matt Ishbia took ownership of the Phoenix Suns from Robert Sarver, the franchise became very aggressive in making moves to be a legitimate title contender in the Western Conference for the foreseeable future.

The Suns swung for the fences unexpectedly ahead of the NBA trade deadline, with the team acquiring superstar forward Kevin Durant in a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

The team didn’t stop there as they have now acquired veteran sharpshooter Bradley Beal to join Durant, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton in Phoenix, which many people believe has tilted the scales in their favor ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season.

However, the Suns have sacrificed their future to compete for a title over the next few years, with draft picks getting depleted in these trades, but Phoenix has recouped some draft capital by making a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

PICKS TRADE: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading three second-round picks to the Phoenix Suns for two first-round pick swaps (2024 and 2030) and Isaiah Todd, sources tell ESPN. The seconds are 2025 via Pels, and Memphis’ 2028 and 2029 picks.

Even though the Suns have acquired a few picks in this deal, the team has shown that it is going all in for the next few years and has put its faith in Durant and company to be good enough to compete for a title.

The team also made a drastic change at head coach, with Phoenix parting ways with last year’s NBA Coach of the Year Monty Williams, eventually hiring one-time NBA champion Frank Vogel.

It’s championship or bust for the Suns, as this team will be under tremendous pressure right out of the gate next season to be an elite team in the Western Conference and perhaps the biggest threat to the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets.
