The New York Yankees are somehow 60-65.
We knew the AL East was the toughest division in baseball, but few people had the Yankees in last place.
It’s an uncommon occurrence, but such is life in the competitive MLB.
On Tuesday, the Yanks lost their ninth straight game: it was 2-1 against the lowly Washington Nationals.
Just when New York believed it had hit rock bottom, they have now lost nine consecutive games, their longest streak since 1982.
Carlos Rodon kept the Nats offense at bay with six innings and just one run.
However, as it has happened often in 2023, the Yankees hitters had no answer for the opposing pitching staff.
Josiah Gray dominated them for six innings even though he walked five.
That has been the story of the Yankees’ season: they have failed miserably with men in scoring position.
With their ninth consecutive loss, not only do the Yankees own the longest active losing streak, but they have joined a pretty sad club.
“Teams with a 9+ game losing streak this season: A’s (11), Pirates (10), Royals (10), White Sox (10), Yankees (9)*, Diamondbacks (9), Tigers (9), *active streak,” Katie Sharp tweeted.

They at least have committed to playing their young prospects to see what they have in them with an eye on 2024 and beyond.
Everson Pereira made his MLB debut on Tuesday, and Oswald Peraza also returned to the active roster.
There could be more promotions on the way.
At this point, the chances of the Yankees making the 2023 postseason are almost non-existent.
It’s time to think about the future.
