There is a lot happening with the Los Angeles Lakers right now.

They just drafted Bronny James to likely play with his father LeBron James, who still has to decide on whether or not he officially wants to return to the Lakers.

The team also hired former player JJ Redick to take over as head coach.

Now, developments are happening with the contract of former All-Star guard D’Angelo Russell.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, momentum is shifting towards Russell opting into his contract with the Lakers.

“I thought maybe a month or so ago, D’Angelo would opt out. Now, I think there’s a chance, a stronger chance he will opt in,” Windhorst said recently on First Take.

Russell is coming off of a resurgent season with Los Angeles.

He had his best scoring season in four years (18.0 PPG) and started the most games of any season in his career (69).

If the former second-overall pick opts into his deal, new head coach JJ Redick will have another offensive weapon in his backcourt.

Russell set the Lakers’ single-season record for three-pointers made last season (226).

If the team is able to get Russell back and if Lebron James returns to play with his son, this team will have some talented ball-handlers in the fold.

Not to mention Anthony Davis is still in the paint too, and guard Austin Reaves has proven himself to be a consistent option over the last few seasons.

But right now, time will tell to see if the Lakers can get Russell back or not.
