There’s A Common Belief About Mac Jones’ Potential Trade Return

Not so long ago, the New England Patriots thought — and hoped — that Mac Jones would be their savior.

Cam Newton wasn’t the answer, and they needed someone to take the reins in the post-Tom Brady era.

Jones looked poised and ready to take them back to the top in his rookie season.

Then, with Josh McDaniels no longer in town and Bill Belichick solely in charge of his development, things went south quickly.

Now, Jones is most likely on his way out of Foxboro, and the way he played the past couple of years hasn’t done much to help his case.

Insiders Andrew Callahan and Doug Kyed report that word around the league is that the Patriots are looking at getting a fifth-round pick in any potential trade involving the former first-round pick (via Dov Kleiman).

That’s not much of a surprise.

Jones’ work ethic drew positive reviews, but he has seemed to lose the locker room, and his tantrums on the sidelines weren’t easy to watch.

The Alabama product looked out of sorts and lacked confidence at times, and even his mechanics were off late in his tenure with the Patriots.

He reportedly wants to stay there and fight for a spot on Jerod Mayo’s team, but that might not be possible at this point.

In all honesty, perhaps all he needs is a change of scenery to finally fulfill his potential, and it might already be too late for him to be the next Patriots star, even if Belichick is no longer in town.
