The Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as one of the best teams in the Western Conference during the 2023-24 NBA season.

A crucial reason behind the rise of the Timberwolves is none other than the rise of Anthony Edwards to stardom in his fourth season in the league.

Edwards is averaging great numbers and proved that once again during the Timberwolves’ recent matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.

Upon seeing Edwards’ sensational 44-point performance against the Mavericks, guard Mike Conley was asked whether it was the team’s plan to allow Edwards to dominate their opponents.

The veteran guard answered the question via Alan Horton on Twitter.

“That’s just Ant. Ant being Ant. I think he felt some type of way about the last game and took it upon himself to lead,” Conley said.

I asked Mike Conley if it was the gameplan for him to be dominant early…

“No, it was not the gameplan. That’s just Ant. Ant being Ant. I think he felt some type of way about the last game & took it upon himself to lead.” pic.twitter.com/NIpyWW4nB3

Conley pointed out that it was never the gameplan to allow their superstar to completely take over the game against the Mavericks.

Conley believes that the motivation behind Edwards’ scoring outburst was the Timberwolves’ previous defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Speaking of the game against the Thunder, Edwards put up 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in the defeat.

Edwards didn’t have a bad performance by any means, but as per Conley, the young superstar still felt it was his responsibility to have an even greater performance in the next games.

As a result, Edwards ended up with 44 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists against a Luka Doncic-less Mavericks.

Thanks to Edwards’ phenomenal performance, the Timberwolves managed to register a 118-110 victory over the Mavericks.

The win helped the Timberwolves in improving their record to 23-7 and maintaining the number one seed in the Western Conference this season.
