The Minnesota Timberwolves have fared much better this season than they did last year.
The first season of the Rudy Gobert-Karl-Anthony Towns tandem was far from encouraging, up to the point where some thought it would be better if they just gave up on Towns and traded him.
Fast forward to today, and they’re both doing so much better and playing off each other.
When asked about that, Timberwolves coach Chris Finch talked on FanDuel’s “Run It Back,” tipping his hat to Towns for the way he’s been able to make adjustments to keep this all together.
“[Karl-Anthony Towns] in many ways, he’s kind of been the glue to all of this.”

Finch called Towns the “glue” behind their success, lauding him for being able to sacrifice touches for the sake of the team.
He also stated that Towns has embraced different defensive assignments this season, guarding opponent players in actions and rotations and not just in the pick-and-roll.
Finch praised Towns for learning through everything and continuing to be an efficient scorer.
He believes he had deferred too much last season to make things work with Gobert, and he kind of lost some chemistry with Anthony Edwards because of all the time he missed.
Now, with all his patience and poise, Towns has been able to make things work around them.
That’s also easy when you have a generational talent and a strong leader like Edwards, who makes sure to put the team on his shoulders if need be.
Still, Towns might no longer be their franchise player, but he has a lot to do with their recent success.
