As the 2024 NBA Finals continue on, it’s hard not to think about the future of “Inside the NBA” on TNT, one of the most famed and popular basketball programs on television.
The team featuring Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, and Charles Barkley is about as insightful and entertaining as it gets and the group has clear chemistry that is hard to find on most shows.
However, the future of the show hangs in the balance after TNT decided not re-invest in its NBA coverage following the 2024-25 NBA season.
The decision came as a shock to numerous people and with “Inside the NBA” likely to end, it has fans wondering about what will happen to its stars.
Barkley made headlines this past week when he announced that he would be retiring from broadcasting following the conclusion of next season.
TNT subsequently issued a statement on Barkley’s announcement, via Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.
“Charles is a Hall of Famer and broadcasting icon who is and will always be a beloved member of the TNT Sports family. We’re looking forward to another fantastic NBA on TNT season and further discussion of our future plans with him,” TNT said.

TNT didn’t confirm or deny Barkley’s decision, which is the smart move from a business standpoint, but says nothing of value.
In all likelihood, the drama of what’s been going on with the networks has worn on Barkley who has made enough money in his post-playing days to explore other ventures.
Barkley’s commentary and insight will be missed but fans can at least take solace knowing he’ll be on air for one more season.
