The New England Patriots tasked Mac Jones with being the successor to Tom Brady after being drafted 15th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, and it went terribly and resulted in Jones being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason.

Rookie No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye out of North Carolina is next up to try to turn this franchise around in the post-Brady era, and Brady himself recently revealed what he thinks about the UNC product.

In a recent clip posted by Savage Boston on X, Brady said “I’m very fortunate to be around him and I like him a lot” in reference to Maye, adding “His opportunity is going to be really what he makes of it and how he wants to develop it and how he wants to attack his profession, like we all do.”

Brady also said, “It’s not where you’re at when you’re 22, it’s who you’re around when you’re 22, who inspires you to be better, who develops you.”

Maye likely won’t start right away and will have veteran Jacoby Brissett show him the ropes until he is ready to take over what should be a new-look offense under first-year head coach Jerod Mayo.

Maye turns 21 in August and showed tantalizing ability in his two years as a starter at UNC where he displayed a powerful arm, impressive poise, and legitimate ability as a runner.

It’s great to see Brady so involved with the next generation of QBs, and it’ll be a pleasure to hear more from him this fall when he gets in the booth to start doing color commentary.
