The Chicago White Sox are in an organizational crisis at the moment.
They are among the worst teams in baseball with a 49-77 record, and owner Jerry Reinsdorf dismissed the two people in charge of baseball operations: Ken Williams and Rick Hahn.
Pedro Grifol is in the first year of his contract and is considered safe for now, probably because of that.
But it’s clear the team lacks direction, talent, and resources.
According to Talkin’ Baseball, via Bob Nightengale, the White Sox are bringing an old friend back to help as a consultant.
Tony La Russa, who stepped down as the manager last year after an 81-81 season, is back with the team.

It’s unclear exactly how many things will be on La Russa’s plate.
He has won multiple World Series titles and is also a former Manager of the Year.
That being said, he is 78 and he showed last year that the game might have changed too much for his liking.
He is more of an old-school manager and had some issues with some modern situations.
Still, the fact he is a baseball encyclopedia is undeniable.
Few people know more about the game of baseball than him.
It will be fascinating how the White Sox include him in their plans.
For now, the franchise should be considered as one in transition.
They made the playoffs in 2020 and 2021 (the last one led by La Russa as manager), but have been bad ever since.
Their focus should be adding talent to the minor leagues through trades, the draft, and international free agents, promoting natural, organic growth.
