The New York Mets are not having the season anyone within the organization had hoped for.

After winning 101 games last season, a playoff berth this season should have been the worst-case scenario.

Instead, the Mets have fallen flat on their face and are one of the worst teams in the National League.

Since they will not be in the playoffs, they decided to spend the last month looking towards their future.

The Mets called up star prospect Ronny Mauricio, and he has been great to begin his career.

According to SNY Mets, Mauricio has gone 5-11 to begin his career with two stolen bases.

Mauricio should be in the lineup every day to finish the year.

He is playing for a way onto the opening day roster next season.

The 22-year-old spent most of his minor league career as a shortstop.

But, since being called up he has played second base for the Mets.

That is because they already committed to Francisco Lindor being their shortstop of the future.

Mauricio hit the ball in his first MLB game with elite exit velocities.

According to FOX Sports: MLB, his first hit came off the bat at 117.3 mph.

Not many players in baseball can hit the ball that hard.

Mauricio is showing off elite traits that should make him an excellent big-league player.

He has no pressure to perform over this last month of the season.

That should make his transition to the MLB much smoother.

Mauricio is the future of the Mets and he is giving their fans a reason to be excited.
