The Carolina Panthers don’t have that much margin for error next season.

That’s why not having one of their most important young players on the field is terrible news for them.

According to HC Dave Canales, first-round pick Xavier Legette’s struggles will continue.

Apparently, he had to leave practice with a lower-leg injury (via Joe Person).

Per the coach, he didn’t want to get into any details, stating that the team will continue to evaluate the 23-year-old rookie and share more information about his status in the future.

While he didn’t seem to be too worried and claimed that his exit was precautionary, it was worrisome nonetheless.

The South Carolina star had already missed time in practice with a hamstring injury, missing most of the team’s OTAs and the whole mandatory minicamp.

Apparently, this injury isn’t related to that one, but it’s still a big blow.

Legette is coming off a spectacular campaign with the South Carolina Gamecocks, hauling in 71 receptions for a whopping 1,255 yards and seven receiving touchdowns.

The Panthers had one of the worst offenses in the game last season, and improving that was a point of emphasis after hiring Canales, who has found plenty of success with once-struggling quarterbacks such as Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield.

He’s going to have his work cut out for him with Bryce Young, who didn’t look sharp at all during his first year in the league.

Hopefully, this injury won’t be anything serious, and he’ll be able to be back on the field sooner rather than later.
