The NBA is in a very different place than it was ten years ago.

Players have felt the need to publicly discuss what is going on with their respective teams, including requesting trades.

This is a different time than when Tracy McGrady was in the league, who recently spoke out about this situation.

According to GQ Sports via RTNBA, McGrady did understand when Damian Lillard asked for a trade.

“Dame, to me, it was time,” McGrady said, “But if I’m POR [Portland], I got to do what’s best for our franchise, as well.”

Tracy McGrady on Damian Lillard and James Harden asking for trades:

“Dame, to me, it was time. But if I’m POR, I got to do what’s best for our franchise, as well. I’m not gonna give away you, Dame, with you just coming off averaging 32 points. You still got game. I gotta get… pic.twitter.com/0V7plwID8L

However, McGrady didn’t share the same affinity for James Harden, who has publically been trying to get out of Philadelphia.

“Why are you trying to get out?” McGrady asked.

“He’s demanded a trade away from the reigning MVP,” McGrady exclaimed, “That makes zero sense to me.”

Harden and Joel Embiid are quite a duo when both are on the floor.

In 72 games with Harden, Embiid has averaged 33 points, 3.5 assists, and 11 rebounds.

For whatever reason, as McGrady highlights, Harden is trying to leave this team, despite the individual and team success he’s found on the 76ers.

The 76ers have made the playoffs in two-straight seasons and are searching for a third in 2024.

After an impressive sweep of the Brooklyn Nets to begin their 2022-2023 playoff journey, they lost to the Boston Celtics in seven games.

The team will return to the drawing board, hoping to make a deeper run in the postseason.

Will Harden be a part of this roster, entering his age 34 season?
