The Atlanta Hawks need a better effort from Trae Young if they intend to come back in their first-round series.

Young shot 5-for-18 in Game 1, and 9-for-22 in Game 2, combining for just 40 points in back-to-back losses.

He knows he wasn’t at his best in his last outing, but he’s confident that he can bounce back and be better than this.

Young has been heavily scrutinized this season.

Multiple reports of his behavior and character have raised doubts about his prospect as a star, and it’s been said that the Hawks would be open to letting him go via trade.

Of course, that could all change by putting together a deep postseason run, but that seems complicated, to say the least, considering they’d have to get past the red-hot Boston Celtics first.

Young had some memorable playoff performances when they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals, becoming a bit of a villain at Madison Square Garden, and embracing that persona.

He’s one of the best scorers and playmakers in the league, yet some still feel like there’s something missing in his game for him to be considered a legit star.

The stakes have never been higher for the former Oklahoma Sooners standout, and that’s not the kind of attention and narrative you want around you at this point in your career.

So, even if the Hawks lose this series as expected, they need to go out swinging and with Young leading them to at least one win at home, or the offseason could get kind of ugly for his PR camp.
