The Atlanta Hawks have one of the best young point guards in the league in Trae Young.
He’s been among the league’s leaders in both points and assists per game since he entered the league, has made it to the All-Star Game, and is one of the faces of the NBA.
Nonetheless, he didn’t make the cut for Team USA despite meeting the criteria.
Young appears to have reacted to Team USA’s loss, tweeting ‘Another day, another opportunity’ right after Germany beat Team USA in the FIBA Basketball World Cup semi-finals.

We know Young is a petty and hard-nosed competitor, and not getting the nod to represent his country must’ve hurt and infuriated him.
One could make a case for Young being a better offensive option than both Tyrese Haliburton and Jalen Brunson, but perhaps he wasn’t a good fit for what Steve Kerr and his coaching staff were looking for.
Of course, we don’t know for a fact if he wanted to take a shot at USA Basketball or was just trying to motivate himself, as he’s often been counted out and overlooked, and he’s embraced that underdog mentality since he entered the league.
Whatever the case, Young is just entering his prime, so it’s not like this will be his last chance to suit up for Team USA to try and help them bring the gold medal.
