The Portland Trail Blazers were one of the weakest teams in the league last season which means they are eager to do whatever they must to get better.

That means they will have to say goodbye to some of their star players to improve.

According to Aaron J. Fentress, per Evan Sidery, the Blazers’ goal is to trade Jerami Grant or Anfernee Simons before the season kicks off in the fall.

There was a time when both of these players were considered the future of the franchise, so how could they be traded away?

For the last few days, there have been rumors about the Los Angeles Lakers wanting to land Grant.

So, does that mean they will be the team to pick up his contract?

There seem to be complications to that idea, specifically the fact that the Blazers aren’t interested in acquiring D’Angelo Russell in any deal.

That doesn’t mean the Lakers and Trail Blazers won’t come up with an agreeable package, and Grant could still be headed to Los Angeles.

As for Simons, there are several teams who would be enticed by the young star.

Last season, he averaged 22.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.5 assists on 43% from the field.

Simons has been in the league for six seasons while Grant has been in it for ten.

They have both achieved a lot but have been stuck with teams who haven’t been able to truly capitalize on them.

Portland is ready to turn the page after last season and transform into one of the most exciting teams in the Western Conference.

To make that happen, they have to commit to big changes, including losing two of their biggest stars.
