The NBA draft is now just days away and a number of teams are still making up their minds about who they will pick for the new season.

One name that has been talked about a lot is Zach Edey, the Purdue center who showed much promise during the NCAA tournament.

According to Kevin O’Connor, per NBACentral, the Portland Trail Blazers could target Edey with their No. 7 pick in the draft.

O’Connor reports:

“The Blazers also worked out Purdue center Zach Edey earlier in the month, and people around the NBA believe that they are also extremely high on him—not just for the 14th pick, but for their first choice at no. 7. The bottom line is that the Blazers seem to be looking to come away with a center to pair with Scoot Henderson and their other young pieces.”

A center would really help out the young, struggling Blazers team.

They ended last season as the worst team in the Western Conference with a dismal 21-61 record.

They have a few young stars on their team who show so much promise but the team is just a long way off from being good.

But this year, things could change.

If they add Edey to the frontcourt and perhaps acquire several other assets, the Blazers could convert their youthful talent into something substantial.

However, the team already has a center: Deandre Ayton.

In 2023–24, Ayton averaged 16.7 points and 11.1 rebounds during his first year with the Blazers.

Does the team’s front office envision him working alongside Edey or would Edey solely be a backup big man?

The team has a few more days to decide what they are going to do because the draft begins this Wednesday night, June 26.
