Over the winter, the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies made a huge move to bolster their starting lineup, signing veteran shortstop and speedster Trea Turner to an 11-year, $300 million contract.

However, the transition to Philadelphia wasn’t exactly a smooth one for Turner.

Through the first 107 games of his Phillies tenure, Turner was hitting just .235 with 10 home runs and a disappointing .657 OPS.

But something important happened after that stretch.

Phillies fans gave Turner a warm ovation at the plate the game after a crucial error cost the team a game in Miami.

Since then, Turner is hitting .359 with eight homers and a 1.122 OPS.

On Twitter, MLB Network posted these numbers from Turner.

Turner appears to be back in sync after this standing ovation.

The veteran shortstop was candid in his assessment of how things had gone and took full responsibility for his struggles.

It was at that moment that the fans in Philadelphia officially embraced their new shortstop.

And since then, Turner has returned to form.

This is certainly an encouraging sign for the Phillies, who are set to make another run to the World Series and try to capture their first ring since 2008.

Having Turner back at full strength should help them down the stretch.

With the way he has been hitting, things have gone quite well for the reigning NL champs.

But it seems that the moment he received his standing ovation from the usually raucous Philadelphia crowd, things snapped back into place for the veteran slugger and shortstop.
